i think the reason her voice changed so much in this performance, is because she possibly wanted to showcase her range. this was one of her earlier live performances, it wasn’t up to par with what she went on to sing later on + up until now, but i believe she tried her hardest and i still think this performance was beautiful. remember, she is a writer/poet at heart so i think in all of her songs she wants the emotion to be portrayed. so maybe her “mistakes” in this performance were just vocal acting to show the heartbreak of the lyrics
