Fun fact: Before people were able to figure out the distance to andromeda, they just thought it was a really fancy nebula. Because of this, "the galaxy" meant the same thing as "the universe". They thought that was all there was. Once people figured out that andromeda was really big and far away, they realized it was its own galaxy, and started looking for new ones. Some time in the future, it will be as if andromeda was never discovered to be a galaxy. People will think that our galaxy is all the universe holds.

I'm now instilled with empathy for all humanity. I was - has been - could've been any human. Genetic quirks, environment that a person grow up in, are all very real differences - yet we are all mankind. This story reminds me of "Childhood's End" by Arthur Clark. It described a future of mankind, where all humanities are connected mentally. I now feel a very (cynical) love for mankind. Either I take this story literally or figuratively, the way I view the world has changed a bit.

So.... if the universe expanded from the size of a marble, to trillions of kilometers in diameter in a trillionth of a second.. wouldn't that suggest that all that expanding matter travelled faster than the speed of light?

This is the beauty of science. If there ever is a study or a finding, it is not immune from criticism. Because this very criticism is what will, more often than not, help in finding loopholes and possible errors. Unlike some ideas, this is true and will stand the test of time

Actually if we were ever to contact some type 3 civilizations, who are close enough to make contact but they also have tremendous knowledge and capabilities, they might be able to help us teleport to a distant area of the universe where we have never been. I mean, we always think we will never be able to do xyz, because it just sounds impossible from our perspective. Wright Brothers thought it would take a million years for planes to work, or something ridiculous like that. I'm just saying...there is a chance.

The universe could very well be collapsing on us, but we don't have enough information to figure it out, we're looking at the starts how they were billions of years ago, as long as light travels a fraction faster than the collapsing universe we would never see it coming and the big crunch would hit us without us knowing it.
